New idears

In the past, grit and endurance have ensured success in most of my college courses. I used to liken myself, the studier, to a marathon runner or ice climber. (Not that I've ever tried either of these pursuits, but you get the idea.) This semester, though, my coursework calls for creativity and focus. A new metaphor is in order. Some paragons of these virtues kept flitting through my mind today:

I guess those big books my dad used to bring home for me, all compilations of mini-biographies extolling the greatness and courage of women, left an impression. Here's to a semester of inspiration by the honesty of Lucille Clifton, the imagination of Charlotte Salomon, and the singular genius of Rosalind Franklin.
